‘We’re consciously co-parenting’: CNN commentator and divorced father of two Van Jones decides to have a child with a female prison inspector FRIEND rather than a mistress and says ‘I hope this concept gets explored and considered’

  • Van Jones said he welcomed a new baby daughter home, who he will be raising with girlfriend Noemi Zamacona.
  • Jones said he realized he wanted to raise another child during the lockdown from the pandemic and learned that Zamacona also wanted a child.
  • Zamacona is a longtime friend working in the Los Angeles County Inspector General’s office who shares an interest with Jones in criminal justice advocacy.
  • Sources said they agreed to raise the baby over dinner.
  • Jones already has two children with ex-wife Jana Carter.

CNN commentator Van Jones welcomed a new baby daughter home with a friend after they decided to be “conscientious parents” over a “friendly meal”.

Sources told TMZ that the co-parent was Noemi Zamacona, a woman with whom Jones had a platonic relationship, and that the two share an interest in defending criminal justice. Zamakoma works as a prison inspector in Los Angeles County, and the newborn girl is her first child.

Jones, 53, who already has a daughter named Mattai and son Cabral, with ex-wife Jana Carter, told TMZ he realized he wanted to raise another child after lockdown from the pandemic.

“I realized that I want another child. I discovered that my friend Noemi also wanted a baby,” he said. “So we decided to join forces and become conscientious co-parents. I hope this concept is explored and considered by more people.”

Zamacona is a supervisor in the Los Angeles County Inspector General’s office and has dedicated the last 12 years of her career to criminal justice reform. She previously worked as a death penalty mitigation specialist in Riverside County, California.

“It’s a very modern arrangement,” said one source close to Jones. “They are not a couple, but a team that wants to raise a child together.”

Jones, whose ex-wife filed for divorce in September 2018 and the divorce finalized in June 2019, confirmed that his new daughter was born in February and that he is thrilled to be raising her with Zamacona.

“This is a special time for our families. I feel gratitude, joy and blessing,” he said.

“As we create a safe and loving environment for this blessed young soul, I respectfully ask for privacy. Thank you for all the love and support.”

After splitting from Carter in 2018, the couple insisted that the end of their marriage had come to an amicable end as a result of personal “evolution”.

They told People, “Although we have decided to end our marriage, we still love each other very much.

“We will continue to raise our children together, run our businesses together, and support each other’s growth. There’s no beef or drama here – just evolution.”

The couple later filed for joint custody of their children.

Platonic co-parenting, as opposed to two exes continuing to raise their child, has gained momentum in the last decade, with a plethora of services emerging to meet demand.

Modamily, a parent matching service launched in Los Angeles in 2012, has about 30,000 members worldwide.

Launched in Europe in 2008, coparent.co.uk has over 120,000 members worldwide.

While co-parenting has predominantly been between gay men or between a gay man and a straight woman in the past, the majority of people who use co-parenting services are now heterosexual, according to The Guardian.
