I had it with those kites on the plane! Shocked AirAsia passenger removed kite in overhead compartment, causing emergency landing

  • Passengers on an AirAsia flight were surprised to see an uninvited traveler
  • Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching was forced to make an emergency landing.
  • The airline has confirmed that no one is in danger and that snakes on planes are common.

It’s the moment that Samuel L. Jackson’s blockbuster became real life when a dazed AirAsia passenger filmed a snake slithering across the plane’s overhead compartment, causing an emergency landing.

The incident occurred on board an AirAsia flight en route from the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to Tawau earlier this week (February 10).

The flight was quickly diverted to the Malaysian city of Kuching after passengers spotted the animal overhead.

The footage posted to TikTok shows the silhouette of a snake traversing the illuminated overhead compartment next to the passenger’s reading lamp.

After the pilot made an emergency landing, the passengers were safely transferred to another flight and taken to Tawau.

The airline said that while this is a rare occurrence, kites have been known to get into aircraft.

“This is a very rare incident that can happen on any aircraft from time to time,” said AirAsia security officer Captain Liong Tien Ling.

“The safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew is always our top priority. The safety of guests or crew has never been compromised.”

He added that the airline “was aware of the incident on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on Thursday.”

It is not clear how the reptile got on the plane and whether it was the favorite pet of one of the passengers.

Commenting on the video, netizen “Emilia Lien Sundang” said, “It reminded me of the movie ‘Snakes on the Airplane’!”

While Siti Noor Fatiha wrote: “Seriously? So scary!’
