Jason Momoa caused a stir among DCEU fans when he was seen sitting on the Throne of Atlantis in the first released still from Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom.
Friday Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled a one-minute teaser trailer for their upcoming films, which included a sneak peek at the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Aquaman.
“What can be higher than a king?” Jason, 42, was heard in voice-over as he was seen seated on a massive throne with metal spikes.

In this scene, the actor who plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman donned the classic orange and green comic book character costume he wore in the first movie.
However, in the previous scene, Jason modeled Aquaman’s new dark blue stealth suit as he explored what appeared to be the ancient ruins of the Altantian Empire.
Jason and director James Wan first unveiled the new look for Aquaman in September 2021. The actor posted a slideshow of photos from the upcoming film, including one in which he was seen wearing a new suit.

‘Second round. New suit. More action. Aloha,” Jason wrote in the caption to his Instagram post.
James also shared photos from Aquaman 2 on his Instagram page, writing, “Here’s @prideofgypsies in classic #Aquaman costume AND a sneak peek of his other outfit, the stealth suit.”
He continued: “The technology of the Atlanteans is based on the ability of the cephalopod to camouflage. David Leslie Johnson and I were inspired by the “blue suit” of the 80s.

In December, Warner Bros. released the film’s official plot synopsis, which read, “As an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible destruction.”
James, co-creator of the Saw and Astral franchises, has hinted that the sequel will have a darker and more serious tone than its predecessor.
In an interview with Total Film last August, the director cited the 1965 Italian sci-fi horror film Planet of the Vampires as a major inspiration for Aquaman 2.

“Aquaman 2 is very much inspired by Planet of the Vampires,” he said.

Jason developed the pitch for Aquaman 2 after filming the first film and contributed to the script for the sequel.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, he said, “After we finished the first one, I went with my script partner and we came up with the second one and we went in and pitched the idea.”

He added, “The best I can tell you is that I love it so much that I was involved in writing it. So we did the first edit and then James and our original writer David completed it.
“And all our hearts are in it. Instead of just getting a script and doing it, you are 100% encouraged by your director and collaborators. So it’s exciting for me and I’m excited to go there. I’m leaving in July and we start filming.”
Filming took place in London and Jason’s hometown of Hawaii, and production wrapped in December.

Nicole Kidman (Atlanna), Patrick Wilson (Orm Marius), Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Adbdul-Mateen II (Black Manta) and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) will return to their roles from the first film.
New cast members include Randall Park (Dr. Steven Sheen), Vincent Regan (Atlanta), Yani Zhao (Scat), India Moore (Karshon), and Pilu Asbek, whose characters have yet to be revealed.
Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom will release on December 16, 2022.
