GOP Senator Josh Hawley asks CEO Biden Garland to make sure Jake Sullivan and his wife recuse themselves

Republican Senator Josh Hawley is asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to ensure that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s wife, anyone who may be “involved” in the John Durham investigation, recuse themselves from the case.

The Missouri Republican wrote to Garland in a letter Wednesday after Durham included new allegations of “espionage” in the “Factual Information” section of the lawsuit in the case.

The explosive document signaled a new twist in Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Russian probe, prompting Republicans to accuse Clinton of “spying” on Donald Trump.

The pressure came the day Republican Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) wrote to Garland to make sure he would “continue to respect the independence of the Durham prosecutor’s office” after the explosive documents caused a political storm.

Sullivan, who was Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy adviser during her 2016 campaign, was identified as the “foreign policy adviser” named in the criminal indictment of former Clinton attorney Michael Sussman for lying to the FBI.

Sullivan is married to Margaret Goodlander, a former Navy intelligence officer and lawyer who serves as an adviser to Garland and has not been identified as the subject of a Durham investigation or accused of wrongdoing.

In his letter to Garland, Hawley refers to the “criminal enterprise” of the Clinton campaign. He said the document “has to do” with Sullivan, and further refers to Goodlander, who serves as an adviser in Garland’s office.

Sullivan is Biden’s top security adviser on the unfolding Ukraine crisis and other foreign policy issues.

Senator Josh Hawley is asking AG Merrick Garland that those “involved” in Clinton’s alleged espionage drop the investigation into John Durham.

“The criminal enterprise of the Clinton campaign also includes many of the people who currently work in the Biden administration – and in your private office,” Hawley writes.

“I urge you to set a clear example and instruct Ms. Goodlander and all of your other employees potentially involved in the Clinton campaign to formally withdraw from the Special Counsel’s investigation.”

In November, a Justice Department spokesperson told Fox News that Goodlander was not involved in the Durham investigation and that she was involved in antitrust and international matters.

As a candidate, Clinton shared Sullivan’s October 31, 2016 statement following media reports of a potential connection between rival Donald Trump and Russia-based Alfa Bank.

“This could be the most direct link between Trump and Moscow,” Sullivan said. “Geeks have apparently discovered a secret server linking the Trump organization to a Russian bank.”

This claim was not supported by a campaign focused on ties between Trump advisers and Russia.

Durham, in a Feb. 11 statement, said that Sussmann “collected and turned over allegations to the FBI on behalf of at least two specific clients, including a CTO (CTO 1) at an American Internet company (Internet Company 1). ) and the Clinton campaign.

Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, now accuse Sussman, and in turn the Clinton campaign, of “spying.”

Republicans, including Senator Marsha Blackburn (D-Tennessee), accuse Sullivan of a conflict of interest and demand that he resign.

Hawley himself faced backlash after objecting to accepting votes from two states that confirmed Joe Biden had won their electoral votes.

Hawley’s letter said the Clinton campaign “cooperated with tech firms to hack into the White House and Trump Tower servers,” although the fact-checker noted that this was for the limited data that the White House and others share to detect online activity. .

He notes that Clinton attended Sullivan and Goodlander’s wedding.

According to a court document filed on Tuesday, Suessman’s lawyers accused Durham of adding inflammatory charges to the legal action solely to “tarnish” the jury and “ignite” the media with allegations that Clinton was spying on Trump.
