McClatchy reported that when Harris was a U.S. Senator, Emhoff drove Harris to and from the U.S. Capitol to vote – and stood among employees waiting for their respective bosses to finish their jobs.
Throughout this time, Emhoff was a partner at the law firm DLA Piper, which he turned down to teach at Georgetown instead.
The couple work across the street from each other West Executive Avenue.
Harris usually works in the West Wing office, next to President Joe Biden.
Although not a paid employee, Emhoff is considered a White House official and has an office in the Eisenhower Administration Building.
Harris has a ceremonial office there, where she hosts world leaders and roundtable talks.
McClatchy said that sometimes spouses run into each other by “happy accident”.
On other occasions, if Emhoff wants to chat with his wife, he asks his employees to see if he can be invited.
Then he and his guards walk down West Executive Avenue to the West Wing for a meeting.
Emhoff also doesn’t have the same privileges as his wife.
While she has access to Air Force Two, which she flew to Thursday’s high-stakes Munich summit, Emhoff can only use the government plane for solo travel if it’s going to a remote location or if time is limited.
Otherwise, he will still have to travel for commercial purposes.
However, Emhoff gets around this by sometimes traveling with First Lady Jill Biden on the jet she uses, dubbed the Executive One Foxtrot.
