Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted of child trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, has filed for a retrial.

Lawyers for the disgraced socialite filed a 37-page appeal in a New York court on Friday night, alleging “erroneous” jury instructions rendered her sentence unfair.

Maxwell, 60, faces up to 65 years in prison when she is sentenced on June 28, after being found guilty on five counts in December.

She was charged with recruiting and trafficking underage girls for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for at least ten years.

Apparently, the jury believed one victim, identified only as Jane, who said that Epstein and Maxwell bullied her at his ranch in New Mexico when she was 16 years old.

The appeal papers state, “A jury brief sent during deliberation stated that the jury was considering convicting Ms. Maxwell … solely on the basis of behavior in New Mexico.”

Maxwell’s lawyers argue that the judge should have explained to the jury that under New Mexico law, “Jane” was not a minor and instructed them to focus only on alleged sexual harassment in New York City, where the age of consent is 18.

Maxwell remains in solitary confinement in New York.
